The Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC), in place to decide major infrastructure planning proposals, was formally opened today, Thursday 1st October.
Under this new structure eight planning regimes are to be replaced by the IPC, in turn saving £300m and slashing decision making times from anything up to seven years, to less than one!
The IPC was established in advance of a number of national policy statements (NPSs). The first of these is to cover nuclear power, renewable energy, electricity networks, fossil fuel generation, oil and gas infrastructure, ports and national road and rail networks, and is scheduled to be implemented over the autumn period.
The remaining NPSs are scheduled for release and designation over 2010 - 2012, and relate to waste water, hazardous waste, airports and water supply.
The need to thoroughly consult with the community has become even more pertinent, as the IPC announces its requirements for high standard applications and hard evidence of consultation.
Businesses will soon be receiving guidance from the IPC on what should be included in their applications, as well as the evermore important processes of community engagement.
Remarkable Property and Planning is a specialist consultation and communications agency. To see how the IPC could impact on your business and how Remarkable can assist in this, please contact Stephanie.
